Bettercare Capital was formed by serial entrepreneurs Gordon and James Patterson – The Founders. The Founders have been actively investing and operating in the healthcare sector for over 25 years.
Their first investment was Bettercare Group, formed in 1992. Bettercare was developed organically and through acquisition was supported by external private equity investment in the late 1990s. At exit the group had an EBITDA run rate of c£12m and was sold for £116m.
The Group comprised 26 care homes (12 within the M25 in London) and a private hospital. From 2007 to 2017 the Founders redeployed their capital into Keys Childcare. Through 17 acquisitions throughout the UK the business grew to c £7m EBITDA on exit in 2017 and was the second largest provider of specialist residential childcare in the UK.
The key management and executive team as well as the founders have all worked together for over 20 years in both Bettercare and Keys and are now actively involved in the development of proposals to fund a number of ventures, primarily in healthcare.
